Fat Freezing For Hips and Waist

Whether it is fighting the muffin top or getting those love handles under control fat freezing is a perfect solution for both men and women for permanent fat reduction on the hips and waist.

Through a process called apoptosis in fat freezing, the fat cells in your body incur damage upon exposure to cold temperatures. These frozen fat cells then eventually are recognised by the body as impaired, and removed via the lymphatic system, ultimately deported from the body forever.

Things to know about Hips and Waist Fat Freezing

During the procedure, the targeted subcutaneous fat cells are gently vacuumed into a specially designed fat freezing applicator (handle) where they are then reduced to -9 or -10 degree. Your skin is protected from burning and or freezing by a particular gel membrane that will be applied prior to the application. As treatment proceeds, the fat cells are frozen and subsequently die. This process is known as apoptosis.

Over the following 12 weeks these cells are then identified by the body as damaged and absorbed into the lymphatic system and eventually eliminated out of the body through normal excretion. Although it takes 12 weeks to see the full results, quite often, differences are visible at 2 to 3 weeks after treatment.

Why do we accumulate fat around our hips?

Despite the attempts of targeted exercises for specific area fat reduction like "lose your muffin top with this simple routine," our bodies don't selectively deposit weight in specific areas like the hips or waist. The concept of spot fat reduction is a myth. When we gain weight, all the fat cells across the entire body increase in size, and when we lose weight, they all decrease in size.

The distribution of weight around the waist and hips is mostly due to our body type and genetic predisposition. At birth, we have a set number of fat cells, and additional ones are deposited during puberty. In women, these cells often gather around the hips, lower abdomen, and thighs, constructring the classic feminine silhouette. Meanwhile, men usually don’t experience the same accumulation patterns.

Hence, while it may feel like weight gain is confined to the hips or waist, it's actually a comprehensive process affecting all adipose cells. For individuals with a higher concentration of fat cells in these areas, the expansion of each cell can give the impression of localised weight gain, even though it's occurring uniformly throughout the entire body.

On the other hand, more common in men than women, an increase in visceral fat - the fat that is stored around the organs within the abdominal cavity, can contribute to the appearance of an increased waist circumference. As these internal fat cells expand, they press against the abdominal muscle wall, protruding the belly, and potentially increase the measurements of the waist and hip areas.

What is the difference between the waist and hips?

There is no differences between the fat freezing treatments for hips and waist area. But generally, the waist is considered to be the smallest circumference area when looking directly at your body whilst the hips are the largest circumference area. When measuring the circumference of the hips, the iliac crest (top of the hip bone) is the anatomical point, however with thick layers of subcutaneous fat, it is sometimes difficult to locate this accurately. Due to this potential inaccuracy, we tend to use waist circumference and use the belly button (umbilicus) for before and after fat-freezing treatment measurements.

How many treatments will you need?

This depends on the amount of fat tissue in the targeted area and the reduction you wish for. Usually, a fat-freezing applicator handle will be wrapped from front to back in a horizontal position to comfortably hug the area.  Depending on the height of the area, how much tissue is there, the flexibility and softness of the tissue, and what the adjacent tissue looks like, sometimes the treatment plan requires only one session with two handles (or applicators) on each side.

We will usually follow the natural curves and folds of your body, and sculpt the new area to suit the adjacent tissue. Repeat treatments are sometimes required depending on your personal responses and desired outcomes.

Hips and Waists Fat Freezing Treaments for Women

Due to the genetic predisposition for a pear-shaped figure, women often store fat around this area and hence more frequently opt for fat freezing on their hips and waist compared to men.

The number of treatment sessions and applicators required varies based on each client's individual response and desired results.

The tissues around women's hips and waist tend to be softer and more pliable than that of men due to various factors including physical genetic, menopause, and weight fluctuations. Moreover, due to postpartum, where these tissues undergoes stretching during pregnancy, they may become even softer and more supple nature. All these reasons influence the treatment approach on women, often time making it easier to accommodate the fat tissues into the fat freezing applicator handle than for men.

Waist and hip fat freezing treatment on men

Men normally have firmer skin and tissue around their hips and waist compared to women, making treatments in these areas potentially more uncomfortable for them. Additionally, since men are often taller or have longer torsos, to achieve the desired outcome may require more handle applications and manipulation of the tissue before and during the treatment.
