Opening my news feed this morning – headlines read Kate Fischer (was engaged to James Packers in the 90’s) has lost an incredible 50 kg of weight! So of course I click through…. And apparently all it took was 4 hour workouts every day and some hypnotherapy. WHAT? 4 HOURS PER DAY? Apparently she has lost 30kg since the beginning of 2019 – which is an extraordinary amount however coming from a base of 100+kgs and coupled with 4 hour workouts, this would be achievable for us all. For a start – there would be 4 hours less of the day to eat, increased demand for sleep because you would be so damn tired. It doesn’t appear that she has had fat freezing – it sounds like she has managed to lose weight through diet and exercise alone – and with four hours a day plus effort – well I’m not surprised. What I am trying to highlight here however is the fact that this type of weight loss success stories is how often stories like this are pushed to us in by the media – as being an achievable outcome for us. Yes for us, normal women who live normal lives.
Weight loss success stories seem to be only celebrated when there are massive gains (actually losses) which perpetuates our internal dialogue about our failures to lose weight. We put these celebrities on a pedestal and internalise their success – but instead create a huge comparison – of our failures- we haven’t/can’t lose weight like they did. This is why we are so passionate about fat freezing. Fat freezing is perfect for time poor (aren’t we all) women who are living normal lives. Freezing fat away is a quick and possible option for us women who don’t have 4 hours per day to lose weight. The cost of fat freezing – also known as Coolsculpting, Coolsculpting or Cryolipolysis is just a financial cost to us rather than a 4 hour per day for 6 month a day commitment.
Kate Fischer – now known as Tziporah Malkah (sounds like a Greek salad dressing to be honest) was a working model and has gotten back into shape to hopefully reignite her modelling career. Now for a majority of us working women with kids – the ability to take 4 hours per day to focus on our bodies – is just not possible. We can squeeze a gym session in here or there but it would be at the sacrifice of something else in our day – not that giving up the ironing is a sacrifice – but as a necessary job that needs to be done around the house, and at some point this (or some mother housekeeping, child rearing activity) will become more important than going for a jog. Our normal life priorities will take over. For some the time and energy required to exercise every day becomes overwhelming and impossible. Emotionally and physically – when we only have 24 hours in a day and we have a life to live (a job, kids to raise, house to clean, relationships to engage in etc).
I have had some personal trainers/coaches/nutritionists in the past say that I am using this ‘busy life’ as an excuse – but until they live my reality – live inside my head and experience my life how are they to know what I do with my day, or what my headspace is in order to fit an hour of training in – everyday.
Obviously they chose their career from a passion that they had exercising for me is a chore, just another thing in my life I have to do (like a pap smear, brushing my teeth a load of washing or a car service). I challenge any exercise coach or personal trainer or dietician – to do something they are not passionate about for an hour every day, without seeing the results for a good few weeks.
