Fat freezing after tummy tuck

The client that we treated in this photo had had a tummy tuck a few years earlier and she presented to us to deal with a few areas that she wanted fat freezing treatment on. Over time she had gained a few kilos and the fat cells that were remaining after her treatment had expanded and changed her shape. With our expertise, we have reduced the fat in the areas – to give her a flat stomach once again and less bulk in her hips. This client was absolutely delighted with her results, and so were we. Fat freezing is a suitable treatment after a tummy tuck as we are able to target the areas where there are still pockets of fat. As fat freezing is also non-invasive there is no downtime, so clients are able to return to work or other general life behaviours as soon as they leave our fat freezing Melbourne clinic.

What is Tummy Tuck?

The beauty of tummy tucks (or abdominoplasty) is the rapid and large amount of fat and skin that can be removed in one session, however, tummy tucks are quite invasive. Tummy tucks are a great choice for people who require a large amount of fat and skin to be removed (usually in the obese and extremely obese ranges)

Fat Freezing vs Tummy Tuck

As seen in the above picture, they require an incision (yep a scalpel blade) cutting from one side to the other. They require a general anesthetic and a tummy tuck where the incision crosses the bikini line is sometimes suitable but depending on the size and shape of the fat a larger incision wider) incision is required. When the incision is extended to the hip and towards the back it is called an extended tummy tuck and it is usually quite painful, during the recovery period. Complications range from infection to tightness across the scar tissue. This sometimes prevents the patient from assuming a natural upright posture until the inflammation subsides – despite the need for natural posture. The scar tissue can remain tender and the scar is most often very obvious. Uneven results are also a risk, however, a good surgeon will be able to minimise this in most cases. As with fat freezing, tummy tucks are not a weight loss solution, as it is only the fat cells in the treated area that are removed, therefore the remaining fat cells on your body are able to increase in size should you consume more energy than you burn.

Fat freezing is a safe and more gradual removal of fat cells. It is best suited for clients that are anywhere up to 20 kilos overweight. The more fat cells that are in the area the more fat freezing treatments will be needed. With each treatment more fat cells are removed, so the larger you are to start with the more treatments you will need, to get the same results as a smaller person.
